Tropical cyclone risk alerts
Know when a cyclone is coming for your assets.
CycloneWatch turns official hurricane forecasts into a 0-100 risk score for every port, vessel route, and coastal facility you care about, with the math shown for every score. Built on NOAA National Hurricane Center data, refreshed every 10 minutes.
Live risk map
Forecast cones, wind extents, and every watched port colored by its risk band. Select a storm to focus it.
Port watchlist
38 major container ports, scored against every active storm and sorted by risk. Each card shows the math behind its score and an alert timeline.

Check any location
A vessel position, a warehouse, a coastal facility: enter its coordinates and get live conditions from Open-Meteo plus the cyclone risk score for that exact point, computed with the same transparent formula as the port watchlist.
The checker offers one-tap presets for Miami, Houston, and Freeport, and works with any place name or coordinate pair, not just the watchlist ports.
Check any location
Search a place by name, or enter coordinates, to get live conditions from Open-Meteo plus the cyclone risk score for that exact point.
How the risk score works
No black box. For each asset and each storm, the score adds four components, capped at 100. Wind and urgency are scaled by reach (1 at 0 km, fading to 0 at 1200 km) so a distant storm cannot drive a high score. The worst storm drives the asset's score, and every card shows its own numbers.
Proximity
0-50(1 - distance to forecast track / 600 km) x 50. An asset on the track scores 50; beyond 600 km it scores 0.
Wind
0-30(max sustained wind at closest forecast point / 130 kt) x 30 x reach. A 130 kt major hurricane scores the full 30 at close range.
Urgency
0-20(1 - lead time / 120 h) x 20 x reach. Closest approach happening now scores 20; 120+ hours out scores 0.
Cone bonus
0 or 1010 points when the asset sits inside the official forecast cone of uncertainty, 0 when it does not.
API for agents and systems
Three endpoints, no key, JSON out. Poll /api/storms every 10 minutes for the current picture; call /api/risk for any coordinate your fleet or facility cares about.
/api/storms?mode=autoActive (or demo) storms with forecast tracks, cones of uncertainty, wind extents, and past tracks.
/api/risk?lat=25.77&lon=-80.17Risk score for any point, with the component math, plus live Open-Meteo conditions.
/api/healthService status and NHC reachability probe.

}Frequently asked questions
Where does the storm data come from?
Live storm positions, forecast tracks, cones of uncertainty, and wind extents come from the NOAA National Hurricane Center (public domain), refreshed about every 10 minutes. Current weather and wave conditions come from Open-Meteo (CC-BY 4.0). CycloneWatch adds no new forecasting; it repackages official NHC forecasts into per-asset risk scores.
Is this an official forecast?
No. CycloneWatch is an alerting layer, not a forecast model. The underlying science references Google's open-sourced WeatherNext cyclone models, but this app's tracks come from NHC. Always follow official guidance from NHC and your national meteorological service.
How is the 0-100 risk score computed?
Four transparent components: proximity (up to 50 points, based on distance to the forecast track, zero beyond 600 km), wind (up to 30 points, scaled to 130 kt and to distance reach), urgency (up to 20 points, full marks when closest approach is now, zero at 120+ hours out, also scaled by reach), plus a 10-point bonus when the asset sits inside the forecast cone. Reach fades from 1 at 0 km to 0 at 1200 km, so a distant storm cannot score high. Every card shows its own math under 'Why this score'.
What do Watch, Prepare, and Act mean?
Watch (0-33, blue): monitor and review your hurricane plan. Prepare (34-66, amber): secure assets, confirm insurance documents, and plan vessel or cargo movements within 48 hours. Act (67-100, red): execute your storm plan now. The numeric cutoffs are fixed and shown on every card.
What is demo mode?
When no tropical cyclones are active, or when you toggle it manually, the app shows a labeled replay of Hurricane Milton (October 2024) built from published NHC facts. The track is simplified and times are shifted to today for illustration. Demo content is always badged and never mixed silently with live data.
Can I use the data in my own systems?
Yes. GET /api/storms returns the active (or demo) storms with tracks, cones, and wind extents as JSON. GET /api/risk?lat=..&lon=.. returns the risk score plus live Open-Meteo conditions for any point. See llms.txt and SKILL.md for agent-friendly documentation.
What are the data licenses?
NHC storm data is US public domain. Open-Meteo data is CC-BY 4.0 (attribute Open-Meteo.com). This app's code is MIT licensed.
